We will be screening Geoff Lawtons DVD "Establishing a food forest".

It starts with a 20 minute Permaculture Classroom as Geoff explains the patterns of a Food Forest and the essential principles of “time-stacking” your garden with the right mix of support species that feed and protect your fledgling fruit trees into maturity. We then join Geoff in the field as he puts the theory into action, planting the seeds and watching the system grow.

Transition Ranui-Swanson will be gathering at Earthsong Common House for a potluck dinner at 7PM, followed by a meeting. I suggest we assess where we are at at present, both the Waitakere group and the TRS group re membership and awareness-raising, and that we talk about further awareness-raising events and start brainstorming possible projects that could present visible practical manifestations of our Transition area.

Transition Communities Waitakere isn't a transition steering group per se, rather, our mission is to inspire and support other transition groups to form in Waitakere City. We are composed of people from both the private and the public sector. We are also lucky in that Waitakere City Council is favourably inclined toward the Transition Movement and is willing to engage with us and occassionally help us out with things. That said they understand the grass roots nature of this movement and don't try to interfere.
