Hopefully many of you got the chance to see the lunar eclipse over the weekend! March is an auspicious month, with not only an eclipse and a harvest moon (Friday’s full moon) but the Autumn equinox this Thursday. Talk about celestial action!
Hope you’re enjoying the refreshing breeze that’s washing over us, cooling the late Summer temps and reminding us that there is a seasonal change taking place.
This email is short and sweet as the writer has just returned from hiking Cape Brett and needs a long hot soak in an epsom salts bath!
If we look to the Gregorian calendar as the marker of time, we’re officially in Autumn! Nothing in nature is ever so simple though, so now is a beautiful time to start reflecting on the tohu/signs that signify the changing of season to you.
What a busy weekend on composting mauri we had! Have a peek under the lid in compost bay 1 when you’re next in and see the temp rising. It’s microbe magic in action.
Hope you’re staying hydrated and finding ways to cool off on these hot Raumati afternoons! Read on for more information about becoming an official member of the garden.
Thanks to those that came along to farewell Hayden from the Bowling Club last Tuesday. Hayden – ngā mihi nui for being such a friendly face and supporter of our māra. We hope to see you again.
Unfortunately due to some much-needed rain our fermentation workshop and pizza event today is postponed. New date: Sunday 23rd Feb, workshop 11-12 and pizza 12-2pm.
It’s been lovely seeing many of you wander back into the māra after a (hopefully) restful time away. If you’re an old friend of the garden and haven’t visited in a while, now is an amazing time to pop in and soak up the mauri that your hard work over the years has contributed to.
Kia ora koutou, e ngā mihi o te tau hou Pākehā! Happy New Year to you all.
Raumati is well upon us, with cicadas marking the middle of our warm season and Point Chev beach packed with sunbathing families every day. While the Western calendar sees now as a new year, the lunar measure of time in Aotearoa places us smack bang in our most energetic, productive time. Let’s make hay (or grow kai) while the sun shines!
Before we get into the mahi, let’s shout out to our incredible watering volunteers. Your regular care and commitment to the māra has enabled many of us to step away knowing that our veggie babies are taken care of. We love and appreciate your generous spirit.
