The challenge; do local Wellington actions make an impact on global crises?

THINK GLOBAL - ACT LOCAL

We are laying down a challenge to activists in community groups.  Local actions are well worthwhile for their own sake, but do they make a real difference to the global crisis?  Is there more we should all do together?  Can we make sure of “change we can believe in”?

The next meeting will be

·         at 6-8pm on Tuesday 27th January 2009

·         in the Lodge of the Southern Cross Bar (extremely well set up with big screen and doors so it is not noisy).

The topic is “The state of the planet.  Can we make a difference in our community?  Measuring local action against the global challenge”.

We will start with comments by three speakers:

  • Dr George Preddey, formerly of the Commission for the Future
  • Derek Wilson, architect and author of Five Holocausts.
  • Dr John Robinson, futures researcher and author of Excess capital.

Those introductory comments will be followed by a discussion.  We will have a laptop connected and you can bring a stick with a few slides to illustrate your points.

This is a challenge to the many environmental activists across Wellington.  We invite you to come along and join an open debate in a friendly setting.  Don’t be afraid to speak out whatever your viewpoint.

Our blog is at http://www.ibws.blogspot.com/.  There is a note on the global economic meltdown,

Regards, John Robinson
