Sustained Momentum Gathering Meeting Minutes July 2009
Minutes for TTM meeting 2009 July 8.
· Report on meeting with Chris Auchinvole. Suggest communication to MPs to let them know we want strong mitigation measures. Farmers are becoming more aware of CC and related issues. British Conservative Party is highly aware of CC and needed action. How to bring National Party around. Suggest inviting Damien O.Connor to TT meeting. He’s likely to stand again. Find things that resonate with Nats’ values. Incentives. Suggestion to have an event on CC and invite all four MPs. Want big cross-section of people. ‘The Economy or the Ecology?’ Aim for when Parliament is not sitting. MPs back on July 21. Not sitting between August 7-17. Citizen-sponsored consultation. At Ecofest? At Trafalgar Centre, there’s the Victory Room. MPs will be there . Ed Kiddle as speaker? It seems there is no one available to take on the organisation of this event during Joanna’s absence from Aug 3 to Sept 13.
· Report on TALENTS progress: The TALENTS group will meet with MOSS membership, and then proceed to launch TALENTS. We’d love to have an attractive visual for our brochure.
· Report on Climate Change Action. Meeting with U3A on Climate Change today, and Youth Council on Sunday, addressed by Katerina Seligman and Joanna Santa Barbara
· Report on film nights – to resume after break for the Stoke showing of ‘The Age of Stupid.’
· Ecofest arrangements. Ron and Greg are preparing display on TALENTS. Jeff will show ‘The Story of Stuff’. Tara will bring bucket with sprouting potatoes. Suggest a basket of goods available with TALENTS. Have stuff to give away.
· Ratify TTM’s joining NZ Climate Action partnership Everyone agrees to ratify this.
· Consultation event with Ministry of Environment over 2020 targets for emissions reductions – July 17th, Nelson. Carpooling optimised. Kevin Hague will attend
· ‘Age of Stupid’ fundraiser for Nelson Environment Centre – July 18th, Stoke. Carpooling optimised. Use TTM list to do this.
· Presentation by Don Graves on air pollution in this area and potential solutions in biochar and soil sequestration. Agreed that we’d like to invite him to give a public seminar on this topic. Handout would be welcome. Atamai could participate. Get an orchardist along. Community House, Riverside. After market on Sunday, 1.30pm.. Lots of publicity (Kate will help). Big sign at front, handout at market.Joanna will act on this.
· TT UK has contributed to National Trust’s agreeing to turn over to people land to grow vegetables. So has Anglican Church. Much interest in growing veges in NZ.
