National Tour- The Art of Scything

Learn to scythe, so you can Replace your noisy, smelly lawn mower  and enjoy birdsongs, the smell of the grass, the satisfaction and have fun, while you work!

The tour begins 25th October on Waiheke Island and travels through Matakana, Auckland, Coromandel, Central North Island, Wanganui, maybe Taranaki, Otaki, Wellington, Motueka, maybe Nelson, Wanaka, Christchurch, Back to Raglan and Hamilton and finishes in Turangi in early December. Scythe blades, snaths, whetting and peening equipment available for use and purchase

Introductory Class:  $60 (max 6 people)

For beginners and those wanting to improve their scything technique.

  • Select the right scythe for the job and set it up to fit you.

  • Mowing tai chi style

  • Techniques for harvesting, grass cutting, lawn mowing and difficult situations

  • Demonstration of scythe maintenance: including peening, whetting and blade repairs.

Advanced class: $100

For those who want to learn more advanced tai-chi movement, scythe whetting, peening and maintenance

Master Class: 3 days $250 Learn to teach others.

  • Learn the techniques in depth

  • Extra training in sythe whetting, peening and maintenance

  • Introduction to needs of learners
