1. Finn and Gary presented information on their Permaculture courses which start on saturday 13 feb. They will be help at Gladstone School in Mt Albert. They are open to everyone and are designed for urban communities to upskill. There will be a wide range of topics and speakers. There will be a course every fortnight and there are 20 in total throughout the year. People can attend one, several or all. Certain courses are compulsory for those who wish to attain a Certificate. They mentioned that the Transition Towns movement grew from the Permaculture movement. For further details see www.aucklandpermacultureworkshop.co.nz and to attend workshops register online.
2. Garden group - first meeting of the year this sunday at 4pm at Creas house. The community garden shed key is missing and the grey hose has disappeared. Lots of veges appearing now in the garden and Heidi has been giving veges to the homestead staff. Members of the group would llike to get more local people involved in the garden and there was a suggestion of an event eg. corn harvest gathering, inviting locals. This will be discussed more at the meeting on sunday. It was agreed that Deryn is the coordinator of the garden group, with Heidi coordinating the community garden.
3. Cake (made from a huge marrow from the garden), tea and a look at the garden was a nice interlude.
4. Purchasing group - difficult to live up to all the principles, it is very complex and still very much a work in progress. A general/purchasing group meeting for all interested in a philosophical discussion will be held in the near future. Niki to craft an email with details to come later.
5. Guitar group - Francisco is a music/guitar teacher and together with Niki they plan to start small group guitar lessons. This would be seen as affiliated with TT Pt Chev as a local cultural exchange which is the way of the future. Brief discussion was had about payment, green dollar exchange etc.
6. Meeting dates and venues confirmed for the year - the first thursday of the month at the Old Homestead.
The minute taker at one meeting will be the Chair at the next meeting. the following people confirmed:
March - Bruce minutes, Yolanda chair
April - Deryn minutes, Bruce chair
May - Niki minutes, Deryn chair
June - Vivianna minutes, Niki chair
7. Info for newcomers - suggested a leaflet with explanation of what TTowns is all about and the main contact details for the groups. Niki to create.
