Minutes of Transition Pt Chevalier meeting 6th May 2010
Chair: Bruce
Minutes: Niki
Attending: Shay Brazier, Jenny, Vivianna, Allie, Deryn, Bruce, Niki, Ellen, Keith
Apologies: Geoff, Yolanda
1.Pt Chev community market – They have a market every 3rd Saturday of the month from 9-1. Yolanda organised us to have a stall and Jenny also attended. We discussed the possibility of regularly attending the market and having a roster of people who organise the stall. Jenny said it was great publicity and not too hard to organise. We could take our banner along. The next one is May 15. Jenny will organise this month and will send out an email requesting people to bring their produce to the market in the morning. Ally to organise and Vivianna to help with the next one in June.
2.Hazmobile in Motions Rd carpark near the zoo entrance on Saturday May 22, from 10-2pm. You can take hazardous goods to it including batteries.
3.Grey Lynn market – This was great last week and people are encouraged to attend.
4.Pasadena Intermediate has sent out a message about a great garden and cooking initiative, volunteers and needed from 1.30-3pm on Thursdays
5.Purchasing group – discussed how we are evolving the group, trying to link to producers and suppliers. We are starting with a couple of suppliers and will be testing out different ways of making it work. We discussed how important purchasing is to the transition concept. Vivianna raised the possibility of asking people what they need and then starting to contact producers.
6.Garden group – Met at Sue’s place last time, it was a good meeting with lots of input. There have also been lots of working bees at the community garden. There is a big call for a working bee this weekend. We discussed putting a water tank in at the community garden. There was a suggestion that we organise a workshop for home gardening. Garden group monthly meeting is this Sunday May 9th at Yolanda’s place at 3pm.
7.Niki ran a card sorting exercise and questionnaire on the qualities of a good transition town group, the extent to which our group meets these qualities and people’s personal experience of our Transition Town. Niki will provide the results next time.
8. At the kindergarten they have a worm farm and a turnable compost system. They are keen to bring in people from the community to talk about their expertise. They really want an expert to come in and talk about compost and were hoping for someone from our Transition Town. Niki offered to show the children the music video made at Western Springs College about using the waste stations at the school. There was a suggestion that this get raised at the garden group meeting. If there is no green stuff at the kindergarten it will be important to get that in. This will be raised at the garden group meeting.
9.Francisco and Vivianna will be at the Pt Chev library performing at 11am in the library on May 15. How about a morning of market, coffee and music!
10.Shay is building a house and is developing a website about the process: zeroenergyhouse.co.nz. People are invited to check out the website and give feedback on the website design.
Next meeting is June 3, Niki is chair and Vivianna will take minutes.
