In this three day workshop we will explore the use of earth plasters for both internal and external work. We will learn about the advantages and limitations of using earth as a building material, how to test for suitability of local clays and how to prepare plaster mixes on site.

The workshop will have a very strong practical focus, giving you plenty of opportunity to get a bit dirty and practice the newly learned skills.

We will be working on the Whare Uku of Te Mauri Tau, a recently built mud brick workshop/teaching space that will feature exterior and internal earth plasters.

But the workshop will also explain how to apply earth plasters to other substrates, such as GiB board, concrete block and straw bale, as well as touching on to the vast subject of using other natural finishes for increased performance of the earth plasters.
