TT Pt Chev - Minutes Monthly Meeting February 8, 2011
Transition Pt Chevalier, February, 8th, 2011. Meeting Minutes.
Attendees: Niki Harre, Keith Thomas, Geoff Bridgman, Deryn Cooper, Yolanda, Ellie, Kirsty, Hana, Jenny, Bruce, Kristen, Diana Ward, Ruth, Viviana, Jo, Guido, Graeme Easte.
Purchasing Group: About to do a mail drop introducing people to the concept – Diana, Hana & Niki will be doing a mail drop – to all people we have physical addresses on the TPC database.
Pt Chev Network Meeting: Aim to build a knowledge base about the community and to resource community groups and organisations. This was held on December 1st. There were very few people in attendance. The group that came had a western bays focus and were getting used to a change of boundaries. They have a Pt Chev art project in mind with money already allocated for it. Recent liaison with Geoff and someone from the board has indicated that the money is not going towards this now. Community Trust is currently collapsing – a member from this organisation was in attendance. They were facing prohibitive costs.
Pointchev.com – This is a fantastic weekly newsletter that Cameron Greig regularly distributes and does a fantastic job of keeping local residents up –to-date with local events. Go to the website to sign on.
Garden Group: Jenny was stating that the meetings need to start again and she is volunteering to hold one at her house – 4:00pm, Sunday, February 20th.
Homestead Garden: 5:30pm onwards Wednesdays – there are working bees and you can just turn up. Bring your own tools and gloves if you have them. Rain tanks have just been set up. A group of people visited other community gardens and are feeling inspired by how well the TPC community garden is going. There are currently 6 core people who work it and new people would be MOST welcome.
Battery Hen Farming: The National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (NAWAC) – part of MAF Biosecurity NZ is looking to change the laws about battery hens and the space they have in battery hen farms. Submissions are welcomed and will close by March 25, 2011. Draft code is available at: http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz.biosec/consult. Can email submissions to: awsubmissions@maf.govt.nz. Can mail submissions to: MAF Biosecurity NZ, PO Box 2526, Wellington 6140. Deryn suggested that some people could get together for afternoon tea or wine and cheese to write a submission and have fun while doing it.
Graeme Easte: – Local Board as part of the new Auckland Super City – (21 in Auckland area) – the one that Graeme is part of represents Greenlane through to Newmarket (parts of) Eden Terrace, Mt Eden, Kingsland, Pt Chev, Mt Albert, Owairaka, Waterview – Graeme will supply us with a map. First draft for what they want to do has just been submitted to council. Interested in public transport, local food production and want to support Transition Town. The board that Graeme is involved with will be our “go to” board for local projects. Contact: cr.easte@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz.
Project – Geoff: Would be good to get a project under-way. Some ideas – a carbon footprint survey, how do we partner with communities that aren’t rich in resources to help them become more local. What would it be like to do another version of the Treasure Hunt with a more direct relationship to the climate change, sustainability, community resilience and such. We will set aside one hour plus – 7:45 onwards at the next meeting to discuss this idea. Geoff will run this element of the meeting and people will be advised ahead of time so that ideas can be brought along to the meeting.
Keith stated he would be keen to be involved in some way with Jo’s eco house which is about to go through council.
Farmers Markets: A reminder about Grey Lynn Farmers market If anyone can help in any way then it might be a good idea to get in touch with someone at Grey-Lynn 2020. The person to make contact with would be vincent@glfm.co.nz. The Pirates league club on Pt Chev club have started having markets FYI.
Kirianne – Organic World: New owner since August. Focusing on bringing up the level of fresh produce in the store. Wants to develop the garden area out the back and making space available for workshops. About to join the sustainable business network. Used to run a business that sold organic food boxes to house-holds. Very open to selling local produce. Has started liaising with the Unitec food sanctuary.
Yolanda: Unitec. Environmental Sustainability Project Team – meet monthly. Looking to employ one full-time sustainability manager for Unitec.
For meetings from March – June:
Minutes: Geoff – March, Vivianna – April. Deryn – May. Niki – June.
Chair: Ruth – March, Geoff – April. Viviana – May. Ali – June.
Idea to put a sign or banner in the window while meetings are being held at Organic World as it was noticed that people were looking in while walking past.
Discussion around facebook presence. Discussion around communications in general – emailing and gmail.
Next meeting: March 8th, 7.30pm
