Supporting Local Enterprise and Employment in the Valley

A buzz in the valleyAmid growing climate, energy and financial crises, a strong and resilient local economy is essential to help us meet our basic needs locally, support local enterprise, create local employment, keep currency circulating locally, create parallel systems of exchange in case the money system tightens or falters, to allow us to trade locally on foot and by bike, to diversify our economy and support ourselves and our neighbours.

Transition Valley 473 is holding a public meeting on Thursday 9 June to look at ideas for stimulating and diversifying our local community economy in the Valley - North East Valley, Opoho and Pine Hill.

We will show videos of strategic thinkers in the area of local economies and have a discussion among the participants with a view to finding a nucleus of people interested in forming a Local Economy Group of TV473 and working to develop local action. Ideas may include shopping and sourcing services locally, alternative local systems of exchange and making more use of neighbourhood resources, building richer connections between local residents and businesses.
