Minutes of Transition Pt. Chev. - 11 Oct 2011

Present: Niki, Ally, Francisco, Jenny, Adrienne, Deryn, Keith, Chris

Apologies: Viviana, Geoff, Crea, Yolanda, Ruth

Chair: Deryn

Minutes: Niki

Niki’s book Psychology for a Better World. Niki’s book has been released, for more details see: www.psych.auckland.ac.nz/psychologyforabetterworld. It is free to download, and if you want a hard copy and live in Pt Chev, Niki can drop it to you, so no need to pay postage.

Niki was interviewed on Kim Hill and will be on Good Morning TV1 10.30am, Weds 19th October. The book’s message is entirely positive. Sustainability is about flourishing, growth and wellbeing. You may want to request that your local library stock the book. We also discussed the great documentaries on TV7 and how it would be good it would be to keep the channel. We also discussed the creative commons, where work is not copyrighted.

Community garden group: The spring celebration was a great success, lots of people attended and there was wonderful food and great singing. The bike pump was going and lots of people tried it out. The homestead garden was entered in a community garden competition for the whole of NZ, and was one of three finalists. Photos were taken by Sally Tag. Look out for the New Zealand Gardener next month.

Location: We are no longer able to meet at Little Hero, so need to find a new location. We will have the next meeting at 69 Dignan St. Options are a community centre or rotating around people’s homes, to be discussed at the next meeting.

Purchasing group: This is working nicely, we are still interested in taking it a bit further.

Draft Auckland plan: Niki to send pdf to Bruce to circulate to the group, and to note suggestions for how to respond – there are lots of positive ideals expressed in the plan and it is well worth putting in a submission in order to keep these ideals at the forefront. There is a session on the plan at Pt Chev library 10am-12pm. Deryn and Niki will be there. You can drop in, no need to stay for the whole session. If and when you write a submission please share it with the group.

Projects: Where are we at with projects? Francisco has started the music group and Yolanda got the plastics going. Ally heard the mayor of Otorohaunga talk about how he has turned the whole town around. Check the Radio NZ website. Judith from Mt Eden Village People has done some great things and Ally is keen to talk with her and investigate particular projects. BISC may be interested in funding some recycle bins around Pt Chev. Perhaps we could do a visioning exercise and then pick activities from that.

Music afternoon: We had the afternoon and it was very enjoyable, working with rhythm and melody. We will sing again at the end of the year.

Francisco and Viviana to play at Little Hero on Saturday October 22, 1-3pm
