Sustainable city showcase – Weds, 9th November

Niki will be at the showcase all day – 7am – 7pm. We have a stall with Devonport and Grey Lynn Transition Towns. We will be displaying the transition handbook, the garden magazine with the item about ourselves as community garden finalists, and a notice board with “What kind of community would you like to live in?” and a display of pictures from our various events.

Location for next year

We decided to hold meetings on the second Tuesday of the month in people’s homes. Action: Adrienne will email the TPC network to organise the homes for meetings next year.

Draft Auckland plan

Niki will be speaking to her submission about the Auckland plan next week. We discussed the desirability of having a debate about the issues that concern us. There will be further opportunities to contribute to other parts of the planning process. We discussed the concept of developing our own plan for a liveable city which includes food and energy security. We also discussed how to involve young people in the visioning process and how to involve Tangata Whenua. Action: Deryn to set up a blog so we can start the process based on some set questions. To go on the first agenda for next year.

Christmas party

The Christmas party will be on Friday 9th December from 6pm at Pt Chev beach – opposite end from the park. Everyone to bring shared food and guitars.

Occupy Auckland

Crea has visited about five times and the basic aim seems to be to create the society they want to live in. There are about 100 tents and people living there. It feels like an extension of what transition towns is supposed to be about. Crea would like to encourage people to have a look at the website occupyauckland.org and to support them if they can – visiting or donating is a great way to do this. Action: Crea will be continuing to visit, so call her if you’d like her to take something to them or if you would like to go with her.

Possible name change for group

We discussed possible alternative names, such as being used by Grey Lynn 2030 and Mt Eden Village People. Action: If anyone comes up with good alternative name then let us know.

Community garden report

The New Zealand Gardener competition is still on with us as one of the two finalists for community garden of the year. Please vote! The email has been circulated.

Heart Politics Summer Gathering – January 24th – 27th

Niki and Deryn will be going and possibly Yolanda and Crea. It is in Coromandel, and people stay in tents. The gathering involves workshops, talks and sessions and Polly Higgins will be there. There is also a children’s programme.
