An American learns Dutch to give Kiwis secrets to a Deeper Democracy…
World-class expert, John Buck is coming to New Zealand, in February 2012, to share his knowledge and skills on Sociocracy or Dynamic Governance. Born in the early seventies in the Netherlands, this is new management method activates deep collective intelligence and improves productivity.
Born in the United States, John has had a career in management in governments and corporations. He discovered “Sociocracy” in 1985 while on a business trip to the Netherlands. Shaken and amazed by such an innovative, positive and efficient technique, John teaches himself to read Dutch in order to gain full access to the literature. Later, co-author of We the People: Consenting to a Deeper Democracy, John Buck is driven by his desire to share and teach this revolutionary way of managing organisation.
Also known as Dynamic Governance and described as social permaculture, this method involves all members of an organisation in the decision making process. Let me explain.
Sociocray considers the company (or group, or community…) as a living body. For it to function, each individual has a key role to play and therefore needs to accept the situation to fullfill the task at the best of his/her abilities. Beyond democracy, “Sociocracy” applies acceptance principles instead of the common majority rule, autocratic fiat, or consensus.
Being fairly recent, the method has already been adopted by a large range of businesses and communities around the world. In the Netherlands, there is no stereotyped user profile; it is used by very diverse organisations including schools or police stations.
John Buck has been teaching and honing the method with pioneer users and experts around the world including in New Zealand. He had his first workshop in August 2010 and is back in 2012 for a series of workshops (open to the public), starting with one in Auckland on February 25th and 26th.
