TT Pt Chev Meeting 14 August 2012

Present:Chris, Yolanda, Deryn, Luke, Terrance, Jenny, Guido, Catherine, Angelique, Niki, Keith. Apologies: Adrian, Bruce, Geoff Through Adrian and University Planning Students, Keith worked with students to create orchard. Got approval from council. Organic spray will be used. Students made the plan. Adrienne Roach (Kelmarna) is liasing council. Bananas, Chestnuts, Plums. Leaflets need to be delivered to the local community alerting them to whats going on. They also nee do to know that the maintenance is taken care of. Community needs to know whats going on. Kids could get involved. They need to know that they are allowed to take the fruit when ready. There is a page of facebook fruit foragers…(can’t remember the name) Kieth mentioned it is possible to plant a fruit tree on your own verge. There are rules around having a certain distance for car doors to open. Jenny to get Adrians email, to be part of the action. Homestead Garden Report – Recently put in compost bins. Terry has been working there a lot during theday. (Copied idea from Wilton Street.) Saturday group at 2pm. Friday group meets at 3pm. Taken strawberries out (they get weaker every season), staked raspberries, mulched the path. Luke has globe artichokes, they will be used in the garden. nikiharre@xtra.co.nz – If you would like to be on the purchasing group list please contact Niki. a)The purchasing group - Purchasing of things that were local, fair trade, organic, less steps between producer and consumer. There is a list you can join where you will be informed of offers that will be bought in bulk and sold at cost price.E.g avocados and blueberries. It is an occasional list. This has sprung from the co op which didn’t quite work. (Ceres was heavily packaged and made overseas) Terry mentioned over abundance of tomatoes which he could have advertised this to the purchasing group. b) Farm Butchery – Local. An organisation which one person runs the farm but sources some things from another farm. You can purchase in various ways… e.g half and animal or buy a cow in advance. Keith has the idea to commision in advantage for crops…e.g potatoes. Prices to be confirmed. But are substantially cheaper than a supermarket. Niki looking into it further. Would have to be vacuum packed and hygienic. Guido has container of “button” batteries in the garage.. rusting away. He’s getting frustrated with not knowing what to do with them. Luke has a friend who does computer recylcing. Luke will give Guido details so he research. Derryn mentioned Transition Towns could put pressure on producers to take responsibility of their waste. Guido will look into what other countries are doing. Luke will research this one. It’s in December 5-6th 15-30yrs old. Climate change rally. At the University. Retreat / Spring Party The idea was a planning day to work out where TT was going. Pasadena Intermediate venue hasn’t worked out. One day retreat. It will cost money but it won’t be too expensive.There may be a film. Maori TV Niki - You are allowed to use your vegetables but you have to price them to what they would cost in the supermarket. September 24-28 At University Niki has started a facebook page to share what people are eating. a) other people keen to sign up?
