Community Solutions for Today, Public Talk OTAKI
Following a successful tour of several North Island centres, Boomert promises “a ripper of a presentation.” His talk, Community Solutions for Today, will be “packed full of inspiration from proven working models at local level.
“I’ll be showing how we can make our communities more vital, more connected and more resilient to future shocks—whether they be natural catastrophes or financial, energy or climate crises”, he said.
Boomert is one of 12 kiwi co-writers of the book, Fleeing Vesuvius, published in a New Zealand edition late last year. With another 27 international contributors, the book was originally published in response to Ireland’s economic crisis, answering “how do we respond to economic and environmental collapse? “
A Wellington review describes the book as “surprisingly upbeat—putting forward solutions that involve changes to our economy and financial systems, our use of energy and land, our world view and our relationships to others, particularly those in our own communities“.
With a history in green business and community development, Boomert has done everything from being an organic farmer, to a TV presenter on Maggie’s Garden Show, to founding a new political party. He is serves on a number of national and local trusts dedicated to sustainable living.
