The Old Homestead will be moved mid October and at this stage it is likely that the community garden can continue during the rebuild of the Homestead with access around the back from Alberta St.

Unitec Community Garden

Guido has a plot – nice community of people, once a month there is a working bee with shared lunch.

Avocados

Contact walterdendl@gmail.com if you would like to have a regular supply of organic avocados.

Sustainable City showcase – The Cloud – Thursday 17th – Saturday 19th October

Walter, Ellen and Ally will be at the Transition Towns stall on Friday morning, talking to people about TT.

Battery Recycling Group

Guido has been going to these meetings – trying to find a scheme.

Lithium batteries should not go in the landfill – the group will be putting something through to the government to try to make a battery recycling scheme as part of the normal e-Waste system.

A person will be employed to do a cost analysis around what is possible in the future and making a recommendation to the government.

In order to facilitate the research Guido created a website consolidating web links to the global efforts on battery recycling as per country.

Berms

The council stopped maintaining berms in July 2013 to save 3 million dollars of rate payers’ money per annum.   So it is now our responsibility to look after them.  However, some of us don’t have a lawnmower or, lack the time or inclination to do this  Anna would like to offer some suggestions for our street - please see PDF attached.
