Unitec  Photography  teacher Becks says students need real projects – photographs and/or video for local groups. Contact Becks on Rebecca@rebeccaswan.com if you are interested to talk about this which may be available next semester.

Neighbourly – www.neighbourly.co.nz  Is now live in Pt Chev. You can invite your neighbours in your street to join.

Soft Plastic Recycling – a teacher on a north shore kindergarten is starting a collection there and the collection at Pt Chev and Hebron schools are going very well.

Cooperation with Tongan farmer - 190 kg of kumara was bought recently  from a Tongan farmer in Auckland, Joshua – to help pay for his water.  Ellen & Heidi would like to support him. The idea is that crops are grown for us. They visited Richard Main from Gardens for Health Trust, and asked him about helping Joshua to convert to organic. Discussion ensued about a group from TT that could help him with setting up compost, learning organic methods etc.

Plastic free Pt Chev – Anna went to meeting set up by Steph, Marine biologist who spoke at grey lynn centre with backing from Denise Roche (green MP).  Steph created a petition to stop single use plastic bags in Auckland. A facebook group has been started.  There are many actions happening to get the message out.  If you want to help contact Anna on bananzza@hotmail.com

Kay Baxter’s talk  - Anna gave a run down on information on nutrient dense foods.

Food Hui -   Ellen helped organize this – speakers talked about setting up a garden that now feeds children of a school along with other groups setup which has been empowering the community.  Ellen encouraged us to write to our local board councilors about any inspiring events.

Next people hosting are: July – Keith/Anna    August – Ally

Anna is featured in Green Ideas magazine regarding pumpkin competition.

Western Springs has been awarded Green Gold Enviroschools award, which is the highest award achievable.
