1.

Living wage campaign: Selwyn Supporters Coalition are a local organisation that is part of this nationwide  campaign for a living wage of $19.25. The living wage is considered the minimum necessary to meet basic needs and allow full participation in society (e.g. membership of sports clubs, dental care etc). This coalition is based around Selwyn Village, which is owned by the Anglican Church and currently does not pay a living wage to most of its staff. It includes residents of the village and their families, Grey Power, Anglican Social Justice and representatives from the national Living Wage Movement.

Everyone is urged to attend a public meeting in support of the Living Wage at Pt Chevalier Primary School, Te Ra Rd, 7pm on August 5.

If you are able to deliver leaflets advertising the event or have any other suggestions, please contact Yvette.

2.

Board games: This has been organised by a sub-group of TPC – please come along! Wednesday 22 July, 6.30 – 9pm, Bowling Club, Dignan St. Bring yourself, and if you wish some games – food available at a reasonable price from the kitchen.

3.

Swap five: Bring five things to put in the pool and take five things home with you. Sunday September 13, 2 – 4pm at the Bowling Club, Dignan St. Various publicity opportunities underway: Sophie will write an article and Bex will take photographs. Please let Ellen know if you have any ideas or can offer help.

4.

Bulk buying: Ellen raised the possibility of us looking into this again and being able to use the garage at the Bowling Club for storage. She will circulate the idea and the possibility of a meeting to discuss it further with the purchasing group.

5.

Community dining initiatives: Sophie outlined a plan to introduce community dining initiatives in Pt Chevalier. This would involve donated food, and people learning to cook and eating a shared meal. Possible venues considered were: the Community Centre in Huia Rd, the Old Homestead, Bowling Club (Monday or Tuesday night only), Anglican Church, Springs of Life Church, Marae. To find out more see the Facebook page: Kaitahi. A $1,000 council grant is available, but would need to be accepted by a charitable trust, so any ideas on this welcomed. Grow Sandringham may be open to accepting the money.  Please contact Sophie.

6.

Rethink the System: Niki to present on “A month without money and alternative ways to do life” next meeting – save the date!

7.

TED Talk: Thanks to Bex we watched Rob Hopkins talk about the Transition Town movement.
