Minutes for Transition Point Chevalier meeting, 10 November 2015-11-10

Att: Walter, Ian, Heidi, Yvette, Niki, Ellen

Apologies: Deryn, Ally, Jenny, Bex, Charlotte

1. Repair Cafe: Heidi talked to Terry and he is happy to volunteer his cobbler/leather repair skills if date suits. Heidi also has radio repair person (in-law). Anna sent an email to all who put their name on a list at SWAP5.

List of required and available skills

-

Leather/shoe repair

-

Sowing (possibly Yvette will check with her Western Springs workshop teacher)

-

Small furniture repair (Walter, Charlotte, maybe Logan)

-

Electrical appliances (Ellen has checked with Darma who might be interested, Heidi will check with Mercy Hospice electrician, maybe we can get a deal re the SWAP5 residues – women’s and children clothing will still be offered to Womens’ Refuge)

-

Electronics (maybe Guido? Maybe we can check with WSC if they have some students)

-

Toys (generally one of the above categories)

-

Fix my CV and job application assistance (Anne?)

For future events metall repairs/welding could be a bonus but we want to build it up rather than all at once.

2. Movie Screening for fundraiser: “The Art of Recovery“ by Peter Young (Ellen and Ricky were at Auckland premiere at Bridgeway and think it is a must, very inspiring and positive.)

They offer community and small sclae screening organised by community rather than going into mainstream. Ellen requested info and they charge $250 for movie screening.

Capitol cinema was too out of the way for Pt Chevies and Niki suggested the local Marae could be a great place to screen it community group setting.

Ellen to check with Rongoa crew from council re Marae contact.  Most think that timing is not crucial and nobody will come to a viewing before X-mas.

3. Loving Wage campaign. Yvette informed that currently Selwyn Village SV, Anglican Church) and Auckland Counil are the two big ones. For Selwyn a great coalition has formed over the past 6 months, residents, families, Union, etc. There are petitions in local shops and people are signing on well. 2 weeks ago action outside the village with 30 people handing information to visitors/families. SV is refusing to meet with coalition again

Carols for Selwyn workers are planned, not clear yet when and where.

Another critical mass is Aucland Council and the issue needs to be on the agenda for the coming local body elections and prospective councillors queried where they stand before election time.
