2014 Programme:

Tuesday 10th  February, at 7.30pm, at New Crossways, Roxburgh St. 'Our Seeds' DVD. This is a 57 minute 2008 film centred on the Pacific peoples, which  promotes local seed saving and explains why that is so important today.
It is timely for us to watch it now as the season is near for saving this years seeds, and maybe we could also arrange for some sharing of our seeds. All welcome.

Tuesday 9th December, at 7.30pm, at New Crossways, Roxburgh St. ’Nourish DVD’. We will watch films on Food from Nourish in California. This was meant to be shown last month but unfortunately the films are still to arrive from the US. The film reveals the many ways that food connects to our environment, our health, and our communities. Most importantly, Nourish offers specific steps that individuals and groups can take to create a sustainable food future. All welcome. For further information contact Frank Cook on 027 649 6508.

It takes us through the first few years of the Lammas community in Wales, showing the low impact building and development of the gardens in the face of local opposition and stringent local authority conditions. All welcome. For further information contact Frank Cook on 027 649 6508.

Tuesday 8th July, at 7.30pm, at New Crossways, Roxburgh St. 'EcoVillage Pioneers' DVD. We will see the documentary 'EcoVillage Pioneers', which traces the experience of some low impact pioneering communities across the world. All welcome. For further information contact Frank Cook on 027 649 6508.

Tuesday 10th June, at 7.30pm, at New Crossways, Roxburgh St. 'Biophilic Design: The Architecture of Life' DVD. We will see the Stephen Kellert 60 minute 2012 documentary 'Biophilic Design: The Architecture of Life'. Biophilic Design is an innovative way of designing the places where we live, work, and learn. We need nature in a deep and fundamental fashion, but we have often designed our cities and suburbs in ways that both degrade the environment and alienate us from nature. Wellington City has committed to become a biophilic city. All welcome. For further information contact Frank Cook on 027 649 6508.

Tuesday 13th May, at 7.30pm, at New Crossways, Roxburgh St. 'Thin Ice' DVD. We will see the 2013 documentary Thin Ice, billed as the inside story on climate change and made by VUW Scientist Simon Lamb. The film is a unique exploration of the science behind global warming and an intimate portrait of a global community of researchers racing to understand our planet's changing climate. All welcome. For further information contact Frank Cook on 027 649 6508.

Tuesday 8th April, at 7.30pm, at New Crossways, Roxburgh St. 'The Human Scale' DVD. We will see the documentary The Human Scale. The Danish architect Jan Gehl has documented how modern cities repel human interaction, and argues that we can build cities in a way which takes human needs for inclusion and intimacy into account. The Human Scale questions our assumptions about modernity, exploring what happens when we put people into the centre of our planning.  All welcome.  For further information contact Frank Cook on 027 649 6508.

Tuesday 11th March, at 7.30pm, at New Crossways, Roxburgh St. 'Who's counting' DVD. We will watch the DVD Who's Counting. In this feature-length documentary, Marilyn Waring demystifies the language of economics by defining it as a value system in which all goods and activities are related only to their monetary value. As a result, unpaid work is unrecognized while activities that may be environmentally and socially detrimental are deemed productive.
While this film was made some time ago by the Canadian Film Board it is very useful to understand more about the international economic system and we aim to follow up later in the year with developments since the film was made.
