Bike Kitchen at Pt Chev Community Centre

We would like to let you know about an event coming up at the Pt Chev Community Centre on Huia Rd, on Saturday 25 Feb, from 10am to 2pm.

The new community manager there, Sara Woodward, is bringing the “Bike Kitchen” to Pt Chev, with a view to hosting it monthly.

As seen in Mt Roskill, it’s a regular gathering where you can learn how to fix bikes, or share your bike-fixing skills. (Like a bike specific Repair Cafe).

You can BYO bike to work on, and the idea is also to gather donations of bikes/helmets/etc to be fixed up and redistributed to refugee families:

There will also be a few activities alongside – e.g. the “Bike Blend” pedal-powered-smoothie-makers will probably be there; we’ll have maps and freebies (bells, etc) from Auckland Transport; and maybe a little obstacle course for little kids in the parking lot.

Bike Auckland will also host a community table for Bike Pt Chev – to gather local bike-minded people, with a giant map of the area to focus ideas and discussion (e.g. “pin the bike parking on the favourite shop”).  Auckland Transport will soon be consulting about improvements for bike travel on Meola Rd and Pt Chevalier Rd, for example, so we can share info about that and encourage people to give feedback.
