The Fabulous Fruit Tree groups planting afternoon

It was cold and sunny, when 20 people gathered to plant out the first serious public orchard on Waiheke this afternoon. Two months ago the mulch had gone down on this property, which is public land and the site of the old Surfdale Post Office. It was a total celebration and spirits were high, knowing that we had planted more than a few (35) fruit and nut trees together. We had sowed some more seeds of self responsibility.

The job went fast amidst conversation on all manner of topics. I enjoyed telling about Richard Lee's visit earlier this week to talk about growing our own biomass for fuel. And we reinforced our delight in the Food Hui held at the Marae last week.

As we moved the last of the pile of mulch from the carpark, mulch the council had supplied for the job - thanks Gary - a shower of rain swept over and a rainbow marked the completion of the job.

A good time was had by all.
