What About Flying?

I'm a Mechanical Engineer. I spend some of my time teaching the next generation of engineers what we know to be true, how to apply the fundamental laws to problems, and how to practice their art. If you ask me a good question, there are logical processes to provide a good answer. » Read more

Fracking Benefits Overblown?

Why is it that oil and gas companies such as TAG Oil and Apache are so aggressively pursuing exploration of gas fields in New Zealand when US gas prices are at a 10 year record low of US$2.176 per mBtu?  In January both Chesapeake Energy and ConocoPhillips announced plans to reduce gas natural gas output and shift towards more oil drilling. » Read more

Getting a peek at the effects of Peak Oil - Heinberg

ALBANY — The last time Richard Heinberg visited the Capital Region in the summer of 2006, oil cost about $70 a barrel and gasoline was $3 a gallon.

When he returned Tuesday to again talk about the gradual end of the golden age of cheap fossil fuel on which modern society floats, that barrel cost $105 and gas was tickling $4. Some experts are predicting prices could hit $5 by the summer.

Here's a great example of a local community working to take control of a valuable local resource, in this case a significant building. They're using a powerful and simple slogan and graphic: "The heart of a new economy".

When will we see some of this kind of action in New Zealand?

Stacking Up Resources on Peak Oil

re-posted from my blog -- oilshockhorrorprobe

Over the past few years I have saved numerous links to various reports and other resources on peak oil and energy depletion. When I started the blog I assembled the best of these links on the Reports and Resources page of the blog.  But it was cumbersome to add new links and the page was not kept up to date. » Read more
