Solar cooking!
Had a great time today, playing around with solar cookers! The weather was kind to us so luckily there was very little cloud.
Johanna had a couple of cookers that she'd made in the past, and John bought some cardboard with tinfoil glued on it, for us to make more.
Making another is a simple process of lying an existing one on top of the foil-backed cardboard, then tracing it's outline with a pencil. Then get stuck in with a stanley knife.
Within a short time we had quite a collection!
The muffins and kumara never really got finished, because we started cooking about half way through the afternoon. But the vegetable curry (started in the morning) and pavlova was delicious! The cooking happens over a long time, so flavours become very infused.

Hey I just had a thought about those uncooked muffins!
Jean, you mentioned yesterday that the chocolate cake you solar cooked a while back turned out beautifully, and was cooked for the same length of time that the muffins cooked for ...
Could it have been that the chocolate cake was dark so absorbed more heat? The muffins were very pale, and maybe reflected it away?
Someone just reminded me that pale foods do that ...
