Newtown market
There will be trucks selling produce (similar to the Victoria St market). Additional to this will be a range of stalls; a community exchange forum; food; activities for kids, and live music/performances. The aim of the market is to improve access to cheap fresh produce, and to create a space where locals can meet, buy/sell/exchange/barter/fundraise, and therefore support each other and the local economy. If the first market is successful it is likely that a regular 1/week or 1/month market will be established.
There is potential for anyone in the community to get involved in this event. We are currently putting out the word to invite people to participate, whether this is by bringing along some homemade chutney, a few paintings, some second hand items, craft woodwork; homemade clothing, hot food/drink, your home grown veges, playing music, or fundraising for your local school/community group.
As the market is designed to support the community, there will be no charge for individuals or community groups to sell/exchange their goods. And there are a few options for vendors to get involved. You can reserve a stall space and set up a display. Alternatively, if you have only a few things to sell/trade; there will be a medley table on which you can place your items to be sold on your behalf (you may have to contribute a half an hour or so to man the stall). There will also be a community exchange forum whereby you can ‘offer' your product, skill or service as an exchange for a product, skill or service that you may want or need. This will also facilitate the exchange of home grown produce - bring along your excess lemons in exchange for your neighbours spinach.

A great start
What a great event: bought some veges, gave out some stickers, saw some mates, found some crafty skull felt badges and a hand-made greeting card, met some new locals, found some inspiration.
Newtown rocks!
