5.30pm Tuesday 22 September

5.30pm Tuesday 22 September Joyce Petchell Park, Wainui Rd (next to museum) World Carfree Day Sunset Bike Ride

Every September 22, for the last 9 years, people around the world have got together to remind the world that we don't have to accept our car-dominated society. So Raglan is having a 5.30pm sunset bike ride out to Wainui Reserve from Joyce Petchell Park, next to the museum on Wainui Rd  The route will avoid cars as much as possible, largely following a route identified by council consultants as a possible bike route.

A leisurely ride will give us the chance to talk about that, as well as, hopefully, having a sunset to admire. Please oin us.

Another topic to talk about could be the possibility of a new walking/cycling track, mentioned by the Chair of the Community Board, Peter Storey, at their last meeting. A paper road runs from the new Ahiawa Rd to Ruapuke Rd and beyond to Te Papatapu Rd. Part of it runs across DoC’s Karioi reserve, so that it could provide a short link from Raglan to the summit.

As the climate heats up, World Carfree Day (www.worldcarfree.net) is the perfect time to take the heat off the planet, and highlight cycling, walking and public transport.
