Tina Cross and Grant Bridger are putting together a night of entertainment to remember, here on Waiheke - to raise money for, and awareness of the work of Transition Waiheke.
Grant says -
We have called it the Ultimate Intimate Concert - because it is literally the best of what we have done separately and together over recent years - from playing opposite each other in the NZ tour of the musical CHICAGO as Roxy Hart and Billy Flynn and also in the tour of BOOGIE NIGHTS. This time we are are sharing some songs we have written for the first time, plus some delicious jazz standards, theatre songs and the odd classic folk song from the 60’s and 70’s. Just not as much prancing about the stage - after all we are both middle aged now!
Small attendance. Great event
We only had about 50 people come to this event. It competed with a big rugby match and a wild and wet night. So as a fundraiser it was a bit of a flop - we raised about $500 thanks to the generosity of Grant Bridger and Tina and all the people who gave freely of their time. But those who came were treated to an awesome event. Tina Cross was in amazing form, and she and Grant did a tag team that was truly intimate.
I got to say a few words before the second half. I started by saying that we live in uncertain times, we sense it when we read the papers, at the checkout or the petrol pump. With talk of Peak Oil and Climate Change coming to the fore we can wonder what the future holds, but no matter what we might assume, we can't really know what the future holds. But something is for sure, that our future will be influenced by our thoughts, our words, our deeds, our fears and desires and by the stories we tell each other about what we imagine. This brought an applause from the appreciative audience. I then went on to describe some of the great transition initiatives that we already have underway.
Everyone left after a delicious dinner of mostly local food and wine, expressing copious words of praise for a wonderful evening, and it got a great write up in the paper during the week.
OPPORTUNITY: Grant and Tina have suggested that they would be willing to take this show around the country if the Transition Community wanted to promote it and create the event that they could just arrive and perform on the night.
