Public meeting - Wellington South
Who: Everyone!
Where: Newtown Community Centre
When: Wednesday 23rd of July, 7pm
On the 8th of July we screened the documentary 'A Crude Awakening' and as this meeting is the first since that, there will probably be some things from the documentary to discuss.
If people who are not very familiar with the Transition Towns concept, then we may talk about that for a while... Clearly the agenda for this meeting is still being finalised, so please feel free to add your own agenda items
car share
Hi,
Those interested in transition towns you may like to check out www.cityhop.co.nz. I;m the founder. But reading your values it seems we may have a little in common. We want to encourage people out of their cars by supporting them with 'wheels when they need them.'
We have been in Auckland for nearly 9 months and grown from 5 cars to 20. We are about to launch in Wellington and ChC is next. Zipcar and Streetcar in US and UK report that every car share vehicle takes 20 private cars off the road. That is a lot of cars not polluting air and waterways.
There are loads of other positive benefits - check out our recent blog on this - 15 positive benefits from car share including putting money back into local communities ( from savings of not owning a car) and fitter people ( car share members walk more!).
Hope we might be able to get some of your interested in car share. My dream is to get car share into the suburbs - then we will transform our communities into being more car less! thanks for reading.
