In 2005 'The End of Suburbia' was screened in Coromandel Town, introduced by Jeanette Fitzsimons. The screening started local interest in Peak Oil and questions about sustainability in the new century.
A local series of articles on issues including Peak Oil and Climate change was started in the towns gazette, the Coromandel Chronicle under the 'Green Blog' title.
Recently a group began investigating the possibility for a small community owned Wind Farm. » Read more

Steering Committee of the Coromandel Transition Town initiative
updated 22 Jun 2008The first task that the Steering Committee set itself is the development of a 'Mission Statement' for the initiative. The Mission Statement will be a collaborative work and will evolve here in this WIKI.

The next meeting of the Steering Committee is on Wednesday, 26th of June at 2:00 pm at the Coromandel Steiner School, Coromandel

(1) That life with dramatically lower energy consumption is inevitable, and that it's better to plan for it than to be taken by surprise.
(2) That our settlements and communities presently lack the resilience to enable them to weather the severe energy shocks that will accompany peak oil. » Read more
