Is anyone in contact with Dick Smith? A lot of energy is wasted when electronics are in stand by. Wouldn't it be great if they actually switched off when they said we did.

Electronics Standby power saving switches

DS have become less useful for some/certain gadgets and gizmos over recent years, focussing very much on consumer goods. Jaycar still fulfill the gadget role and supply up&down the country from stores and mail order.

Here's something they have, looks quite reasonable,

Righthouse used to market standby switches, hard to tell from their website if they still do - they could be worth contacting though.

Just be aware that some "energy saving" devices are no more than a clever reminder that something is on, and a more convenient way of switching off instead of performing contortions to get behind media centres etc to reach switches or power boards. That in itself is a useful feature though!
