Mt Victoria May meeting - 'Thin Ice' DVD

Tuesday 13th May, at 7.30pm, at New Crossways, Roxburgh St. 'Thin Ice' DVD. We will see the 2013 documentary Thin Ice, billed as the inside story on climate change and made by VUW Scientist Simon Lamb. The film is a unique exploration of the science behind global warming and an intimate portrait of a global community of researchers racing to understand our planet's changing climate. All welcome.

Mt Victoria April meeting - 'The Human Scale' DVD

Tuesday 8th April, at 7.30pm, at New Crossways, Roxburgh St. 'The Human Scale' DVD. We will see the documentary The Human Scale. The Danish architect Jan Gehl has documented how modern cities repel human interaction, and argues that we can build cities in a way which takes human needs for inclusion and intimacy into account. The Human Scale questions our assumptions about modernity, exploring what happens when we put people into the centre of our planning.  All welcome.

In this feature-length documentary, Marilyn Waring demystifies the language of economics by defining it as a value system in which all goods and activities are related only to their monetary value. As a result, unpaid work is unrecognized while activities that may be environmentally and socially detrimental are deemed productive. » Read more

Mt Victoria October meeting -'A Meeting of Minds', screening of a conversation between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and New Zealand's Lloyd Geering

Tuesday 8th October, at 7.30pm - 'A Meeting of Minds', the Face television conversation between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and New Zealand's Lloyd Geering. The interview screened earlier this year on Triangle television (not available in Wellington) between New Zealand's elder and well published Professor Emeritus on religious studies, Lloyd Geering, and the Dalai Lama. Some of the Dalai Lama's fundamental views on Buddhism and the rest of the world are discussed as well as aspects of his life. » Read more

Mt Victoria August meeting - viewing North Island half of the Emma Heke film "Our Green Roadie".

Having seen the South Island half earlier we will view the North Island half of the Emma Heke film Our Green Roadie. Emma and Connor Heke travelled NZ for 6 months in a tiny van, on a shoe-string budget to film for Our Green Roadie. The full documentary is a compilation of stories and snapshots shared by 50 NZers with eco-conscious and economically viable businesses and lifestyles. All welcome. » Read more
