Waitati Neighbourhood Support

Neighbourhood Support encourages neighbours to talk about the issues affecting us in our street/area. Issues of concern include:

*Car damage
*Car thefts
*Boy racers
*Noisy parties
*Burglary
*Bullying
*Graffitti
*Vandalism
*Other crime and anti social behaviour

We all have the right to feel safe in our home and Neighbourhood Support can help to reduce the FEAR of crime by knowing you are not alone, your neighbours are experiencing these things too.

Karan's experience of the WEP

I feel good about how it went last week...my first week on the job. A week full of people-meeting. Interesting people who are positive and motivated and doing cool stuff. At times it was like walking into another world...the Otago University terrain not so familiar to me, yet there were familiar faces there. People I've crossed paths with before.  » Read more

Local Renewable Generation Resilient Network

The Idea

A supple, responsive, dispersed household controlled local generation network, evolving over time with addition of Renewable Generation System 'pods' (new households with renewable generation systems joining the network over time).

Simple, but how simple really?

Simplicity itself. Already we have the technology in the form of photovoltaics, micro-hydro and micro-wind, and two-way meters allowing grid integration. Why hasn't everybody already done it? Herein lies the complication. » Read more

Micro-Hydro

We don't have a great amount of flowing water available to be harnessed for energy production locally, however since our local water schemes are being replaced by a centralised supply of treated water from Dunedin, there's some scope for giving this local water a different status: from village water supply to generation supply.

Blueskin Youth Centre Administration meeting

The Blueskin Youth Centre Association resolved on Monday 25 May to develop a replacement at Bland Park in Waitati for the old Youth Hall, a former church, damaged by fire several years ago. It is proposed that the replacement will be a covered, all-weather, roofed structure with a hard, smooth playing surface.

The Association will hold a meeting, open to the public, on 22 June at Waitati Hall (7pm), to advance its proposal.

Among things to be discussed are: what users want; vision, mission and objectives; working with other community partners.

Location / Venue:
Waitati Hall, Waitati

Sponsors and Funders

The volunteer nature of our initiatives, the work 'in-kind', the bartering, the gift economy: all of this makes Waitati and Blueskin Bay a special place.

We are striving to do better for our communities, and in order to enhance our initiatives, create efficiencies and be more effective, we've pursued a strategy of seeking financial assistance in pursuit of our goals. » Read more
