Creating Household Energy Efficiency

Introduction

Creating energy efficiency in our households is one key step towards being able to meet our energy needs, because the less we consume (EFFICIENCY is not the same as REDUCTION in energy use however), or at least, the more efficiently we consume electricity, wood, pellets, even dare I say it, coal (I hope no one out there is buring coal), the easier we'll find it to meet the energy 'needs' of our community. » Read more

Waitati Research: OERC- Waitati Liaison

OERC/Waitati Community Liaison group meeting

These meetings are not just for coming up to date with current Waitati research conducted by OERC and university researchers, they also allow us to discuss research objectives we might share and directions we'd like to go in in the future.

With the results of the baseline survey out, and the recent activity around transport, in the dramatic increase in insulation retrofitting, and the promising initiatives in Renewable Generation, there are many areas to look at. » Read more

'Thin-air' prototype

Introduction

The 'Thin-air' story is fascinating not just for the Powerhouse Wind team's drive, imagination and enthusiasm in working creatively on sustainable solutions for a changing world, but also for the Lobitz-Hagerman family's ambitions to become net energy exporters (electric car included), as well as being both a symbolic and substantial example of the WEP's ambitions for Waitati and the Blueskin Bay area, if not all of New Zealand.

Renewable Generation: WEP

Local Energy Production for local consumption

The idea of a community scale wind turbine fired the imaginations of Waitati and Blueskin Bay residents several years ago. Much has happened since then, but now we have FOUR RG initiatives on the go in Waitati, all complementary as we move towards building enery security and resilience for Waitati and Blueskin communities.

First, here's a little inspiration: I like this clip, it puts into perspective our own energy 'needs', but notice there's no single blade turbine to be seen? » Read more

Blueskin Youth Centre Administration

About the BYCA

The Blueskin Youth Centre Administration was established to administer the affairs of the Youth Hall (Old Church near State Highway 1). When a fire destroyed the Youth Hall, the BYCA committee became guardians of its resources.

Following the April 2009 AGM a new committee came together with renewed energy and enthusiasm to establish facilities and resources for Blueskin Youth. In 2011 after severe attrition in the BYCA, another AGM was organised. The best person to contact now about BYCA is: Paul Siroto? (satori@xtra.co.nz). » Read more

Waitati Transition: Pecha Kucha Night 2

Designing Transition in Waitati and from elsewhere

I'm told I have 6 minutes 40 seconds to do it in, and twenty images, so this will be fun! What we've done, why, where we're going, where it came from - who knows how it'll look, but I'm looking forward to it. Apparently there's a $5 entry fee, and Bar with Emersons.
