Submitted by Denis Tegg on 17 May 2011 - 2:20pm | updated 17 May 2011 | Blog entryThe Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Catalyst programme has just broadcast the best peak oil documentary in recent times. In just 12 minutes it covers many of the essential points, and is a great way to get yourself up to speed on peak oil. Please take the time to watch it, and share this Youtube link and the ABC Catalyst link with your networks, and with anyone you believe is unaware of, or in denial about peak oil. » Read more

Inflinite growth paradigm meets end of cheap energy
Submitted by seemorerocks on 11 May 2011 - 11:38am | Blog entryAs a non-economist I don't often pay much attention to graphs of economic activity.
However, I saw an article that really caught my attention, so have posted this on my blog www.robinwestenra.blogspot.com
I apologise, I wasn't able to work out how to bring the article with the graph over to this site.

Ideology Trumps Common Sense
Submitted by Denis Tegg on 22 March 2011 - 12:56pm | Blog entryIt's said a picture is worth a thousand words. Take a look at these graphs and see if you can make any sense of the government's response to oil prices rising and it's transport policy. Damned if I can. (hat tip to Auckland Transport blog and frog blog)

Do Saudis have spare capacity? And why your standard of living hinges on it.
Submitted by Denis Tegg on 10 March 2011 - 2:21pm | Blog entryThe conventional response to a supply disruption like from Libya is -- no worries, the Saudis have heaps of oil and can immediately pump more to take up the slack. But do they? And what happens to oil prices if they can't?
Many astute oil experts have grave doubts about the Saudis much vaunted spare capacity. This is vital because Saudi Arabia is the world's largest producer, and up till now has been able to influence the world price by opening the oil taps. » Read more
As seen on TV - Breakfast Show
Submitted by James Samuel on 9 March 2011 - 4:45am | updated 09 Mar 2011 | Blog entryA great opportunity came chasing after me yesterday, when Paul from TVNZ tracked me down to invited someone from Transition Towns to go on the Breakfast Show on Wednesday morning to talk about the Transition Towns response to rising fuel prices. I hesitated briefly. Here was a chance to raise the bar on the conversation, above simply rising fuel and food prices (which are intimately interlinked).
So in case you can't (or didn't) see the 7:10am breakfast show here's what I am hoping to bring to the conversation.
